Netherlands, Ukraine discuss ongoing backing for F-16 fighter jets
(MENAFN) Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans met with Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Oleksandr Kozenko to review ongoing support for Ukraine’s F-16 fighter jet program, the Dutch Defense Ministry said Wednesday. The talks focused on ammunition, spare parts, and pilot training, highlighting the Netherlands’ commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s air capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
“Great meeting with Ukrainian colleague Kozenko about our F-16 support. It’s truly impressive how Ukrainian pilots are using F-16s to protect the skies and eliminate drones and missiles,” Brekelmans wrote on X. He added that the Netherlands “keeps supporting the Ukrainian Air Force with ammunition, spare parts, and training.”
Between 2024 and 2025, the Netherlands delivered 24 F-16 Fighting Falcons to Ukraine, becoming a key partner in modernizing Kyiv’s air force. In July, Ukraine also received two technical hubs for F-16 maintenance and aviation weapons, along with a mission planning complex, enhancing its operational readiness.
The Netherlands participates in an international coalition with Denmark, Norway, and Belgium, providing Ukraine not only with aircraft but also pilot training, maintenance, and logistical support. The coalition’s combined efforts aim to ensure Ukrainian forces can operate the F-16s effectively in ongoing defensive and offensive operations.
