Turkey gets hit by 4.9 magnitude earthquake

(MENAFN) A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye’s western province of Kutahya early Thursday, according to reports. The tremor occurred at 2:54 a.m. local time (2354 GMT) at a depth of 12.1 kilometers (7.52 miles), the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) confirmed.

The epicenter was initially identified in Simav district, one of the western districts of Kutahya. Authorities said that emergency teams were immediately alerted and monitored the affected area for potential damage or aftershocks.

Kutahya Governor Musa Isin posted on social media platform X that, so far, no “negative” impact or damages have been reported, reassuring residents. Local officials continue to urge people to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines, as aftershocks may occur in the hours following the main tremor.
